Need help with komachat? Here's how to reach us and what to try first.
Common questions
How do I change my handle? You can't, at the moment. Handles are permanent at sign-up to keep things stable for people you've shared them with. We're considering allowing a once-per-year change in a future version.
How do I delete my account? In the app: open the You tab and choose Delete Account, then confirm. That removes your account and its data. If you'd rather, you can also email [email protected] from any address with your handle and ask us to delete it. Either way, everything is removed within 30 days; e-mailed requests get a confirmation when they're done.
How do I export my chat history? Email [email protected] with your handle and we'll send you a JSON export of all your messages within 7 business days.
A friend can't find me by handle. Make sure they're typing your handle exactly — handles are case-insensitive but otherwise must match (letters, numbers, and underscores only). Your handle is shown on your profile under your display name.
Messages won't deliver / appear stuck on "sent." Check your internet connection. The single ✓ means the server has your message; ✓✓ means the recipient's device has received it; ✓✓ in red means they've opened the chat. If a message stays on single ✓ for a long time, the recipient may be offline.
My push notifications aren't working. On iPhone: Settings → komachat → Notifications → make sure "Allow Notifications" is on. Also check the conversation isn't muted (the bell-slash icon next to the chat name in your chat list means it's muted).
I'm getting messages from someone I want to stop hearing from. In your Contacts tab, swipe left on the contact → tap "block." Their messages stop reaching you. If they aren't in your Contacts yet, add them first then block. You can unblock at any time from the You tab → Account → blocked users.
Someone is harassing me / sending inappropriate content. Report it in the app: long-press the message → Report, then pick a reason. You can also report the person from their entry in your Contacts (long-press the row → Report). To stop hearing from them entirely, block them too (see above). For anything serious or urgent, also email [email protected] with their handle and a description — we take this seriously and will investigate within 48 hours (within 24 for urgent reports — see below).
The app crashed / something looks broken. Email [email protected] with:
- Your iOS version (Settings → General → About → Software Version)
- Your komachat version (You tab → footer)
- What you were doing when it broke
- A screenshot if you have one

Reporting abuse / urgent issues
You can report a message or a user from inside the app at any time (long-press a message → Report). For harassment, threats, or content involving minors, also email [email protected] with the subject line "URGENT" and we'll respond within 24 hours.
For threats to life or safety, please contact local emergency services first. We'll cooperate with law enforcement requests through proper legal channels.
